Additional Thoughts on Leadership – the pains, our duty and our hope

“When they had finished breakfast , Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, ” Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time. “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.”… – John 21:15-17

“Will any one of you who has a servant  plowing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and recline at table’?

Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, and  dress properly,  and serve me while I eat and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink’?

Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded?

So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servantswe have only done what was our duty.’ ” – Luke 17:7-10

Duty regardless of lack of reward (purposeful suffering, lack of material security), duty regardless of lack of honor (increased shame/insults/misunderstandings). Christ’s blood covers our every work and when He comes again, we will be vindicated wholly and only by His righteousness.  He will wipe every tear from our eyes that flows for our mistakes – yours and mine
