Good Friday
This is the blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.
Mark 14:24
This year’s REW was not organized nor primarily executed by Parts. I remember how in the past few years, it used to be Sulian’s and Ivy’s baby i.e. hair-pulling, sweat-dripping creative effort to engage students relevantly, without compromising the gospel message that was to be shared. I thank God for their hard work. I thank God too for this year’s team which put together the package on ‘Change’.
Indeed it was sobering to realize that at the end of the day, we are so far away from God’s standard of perfection. We are brought to an awareness of this everyday when we stare into the mirror. We are shocked back into our senses when we read what the bible says about our sin. There is not one of us who will not grow old and die, save the return of Christ. There is not one of us who lives a day pleasing God in everything that we do.
The new covenant that God initiated and instituted was made possible by the blood of of Jesus. With His blood, He secured the power and promises of the covenant. It is supremely effective because of the shed blood at Calvary. It is His blood that begins in me the work of change to first acknowledge God as Lord and Savior, then to live this fact out.
Even as I reflect on my sinfulness, I thank God for the Spirit which has written the new covenant on our hearts. Christ’s blood guarantees for believers – new hearts and eternal security. I pray that the Lord will help me do what is right and pleasing in His eyes.
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Refrain
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
